How To Manage Foot Pain
If you have chronic foot pain, a smart first step to take is to make an appointment with your local podiatrist. A podiatrist is a foot doctor who specializes in the medical care and treatment of the feet. For example they can treat fungal toenails, maladies that make the foot painful, even those that cause pain in the ankle foot region. They are educated and trained in podiatry so if you have a serious foot problem a podiatrist may be a better choice over your general practitioner. Please note that depending on your insurance plans, some people may need to get a referral from their family doctor in order to secure an appointment with a podiatrist.
Any type of pain in the feet or ankles could be due to a variety of reasons. For example, pain from an ankle sprain can radiate from the ankle into the entire foot. Walking with a sprained ankle can be difficult and in most cases, the ankle has to be immobile and treated with ice and heat until the sprain has healed enough to walk without pain. Bone spurs in the feet can also be noticeable and painful, and are often surgically removed. Corns and calluses on the toes are often from wearing ill-fitted shoes, and occasionally you can treat these at home. Also, cracked, rough heels can be treated at home as well with a good home pedicure.
Wearing shoes with shoelaces that are too tight is another preventable cause of foot pain. This can cause pain and bruising due to the pressure applied by the shoelaces on the top of the foot. One way to minimize your foot distress in your shoes is to insert gel insoles for extra protective padding and support for your feet. Many women find that their toes suffer in high heels; however these days you can find high heels and other dress shoes that are made with the foot in mind and provide comfort and support to the feet. Broken toes or a stubbed toe are two more reasons behind foot pain. This may be due to having a heavy object fall on your foot or by bouncing your toe against an hard object.
So based on your type of foot injury, the first thing to do is to gauge the severity of the injury and pinpoint the location of the pain. If you have to, jotting down or making a mental note of your problems will assist your doctor in diagnosing your condition. As previously stated, the crucial information is where the pain is located, how the foot look, if any injury has been incurred and how long the problem has persisted. In most cases a visit to the doctor may be unnecessary, as there are many products on the market for aching feet, corns, calluses, uncomfortable shoes and more. In addition, you can find effective antifungal natural remedies and/or over the counter creams that can treat mild cases of athlete's foot.
